How to Reduce Your Chances of Being a Victim
There is no doubt that having a security system can help protect your home from crime, but there are other things you should do to make your home a safer place.
The following check list is a small sample of the types of questions you will answer during a typical security survey.

Do you have an alarm system?
Do you use it consistently?
Does any structure or landscaping allow an intruder to work concealed from view?
Do you have outside security lighting on all sides of your home?
Do you check that all doors and windows are locked when you leave or retire?
Do you keep a spare house key hidden outside?
Are valuable items inventoried with serial numbers listed?
Are valuables marked with a scriber and an identifying number?
Do you have photos or video tape of your valuables?
Are selected inside lights controlled by timers?
Are all exterior doors metal or solid wood at least 1.75" thick?
Do all exterior doors have deadbolt locks with at least a 1"throw?
Are there windows in or near the door?
If so, does the door have a double cylinder deadbolt lock?
Are all strikes and strike plates fastened with at least 3" screws?
Can entrances be seen from the street or public areas?
Do windows have key locks or some type of lock in addition to the regular lock?
Are basement windows secure?
Is your address visible from the street - day and night?
